City of Vernon Plans Apply to DEO for Community Development Block Grant-Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) of $987,566

The City of Vernon plans to apply to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) for a Community Development Block Grant-Coronavirus (CDBG-CV) of $987,566.00. For each activity that is proposed, at least 70% of the funds must benefit low-and-moderate income persons. The activities, dollar amounts and estimated percentage benefit to low-and-moderate income persons for which City of Vernon is applying are:

The activities to be carried out in Project Area #1 are as follows:

The City of Vernon will utilize CDBG-CV assistance to renovate the City’s Community Center, located at 2808 Yellow Jacket Dr, Vernon, FL 32462, to provide a clean, safe and handicap accessible location for residents to receive testing and vaccinations for COVID 19. Additionally, the facility’s kitchen may be utilized for preparing meals for homebound persons testing positive for COVID 19. The improvements to the building will include: necessary handicap accessibility, replacement of the roof, repair or replacement of HVAC and electrical, replacement of necessary plumbing and fixtures, renovation of the restrooms to be ADA compliant, upgrade kitchen, repair, prep and paint walls, replace ceiling, repair or replace flooring, install fire sprinkler system, replace interior and exterior doors. The renovated building will provide local access to essential testing and vaccination services for the residents of Vernon, the majority of which are low- to moderate income.
