Vernon, Florida Receives 2020 Gene Wright Municipal Resilience Award on Friday, November 6, 2020

The city of Vernon, Florida received the Gene Wright Municipal Resilience Award on Friday, November 6, 2020.

When the award was presented, Vernon Mayor Candice Hodges said, ‘I am honored to receive this award for the City of Vernon’.

‘2020 has brought so much to our country that we never expected but our City has been hit over and over.  Covid, many storms on the coast, and flooding throughout the area’.

‘Everyone has worked together to make sure the city and community moved forward. In our small town we have BIG heart. We have love for our neighbors and a fighting spirit to never quit’.

‘Today we received the Gene Wright Municipal Resilience Award for 2020 from the Florida League of Cities. It’s not just for one person because it represents all that our town is. We ban together, we work hard, we keep going. From the businesses being closed during the beginning of Covid to homes flooded, no one gave up. I love our hometown’.

The award will be on display at Vernon City Hall, located at 2808 Yellow Jacket Drive in Vernon, Florida, and City Clerk Tracy Walker is also available for comments.
