Vernon, Florida High School Yellow Jackets Football Squad Hands Chipley High School Tigers 46-8 Defeat on Friday, September 13, 2019

A solitary white helium balloon ascended over Memorial Field in Vernon, Florida on Friday evening, September 13, 2019, in a moment of silence, as several hundred football players, coaches and staff, parents and football fans stood at attention.

The memorial was in honor of Josh Webb, 2018 graduate of Vernon High School, who recently passed in a vehicle accident, and the moment preceded the rivalry high school football game between Vernon and Chipley, a highly-contested annual occurrence which pits the Yellow Jackets from Vernon against the Tigers of Chipley.

On Friday evening the Chipley squad faced an improved, aggressive and domineering Yellow Jacket team, as Vernon football continues to grow and excel under the leadership and guidance of Vernon Head Coach Gerald Tranquille.

With a final score of 46-8, Chipley was routed by the better Vernon squad, and as the game goes into the record books, Vernon enjoys vindication and victory, beating Chipley for the second time in as many years, as seen in Part 1 of these photos of the event by Real Florida Media, a subsidiary of The Goulding Agency.

The win, making Vernon 3-1 and Chipley 0-4 for the regular season, was accompanied by the pomp and circumstance of marching bands, cheerleaders and a large audience of football lovers, along with all the glirz and glamour expected at ‘Friday Night Lights’ of small-town America high school football.
