City of Vernon, Florida Meets in Lengthy Workshop Session To Discuss City Audit, City Football League and Community Clean-Up

On Monday, June 1, 2020, the City Council for Vernon, Florida met at the Vernon Community Center, maintaining social distancing, to conduct their regular monthly workshop meeting.

Non-partisan candidate for Washington County School Board District 2 Jerry Harrell was the featured speaker, and introduced himself to the citizens in attendance and explained his reasons for running for office.

‘Washington County High Schools have an 80% graduation rate’, said Harrell, ‘and at first glance that may appear good, but that percentage actually puts Washington County in 60th place overall, out of the 67 counties in Florida, and that’s not good’.

‘I don’t have all the answers’, said Harrell, ‘but I do know that it’s time for a change’, as he finished his presentation to the Vernon City Council.

The Vernon Recreation Department announced that there would be City League Football this year, after baseball, softball and tee-ball was cancelled due to the Coronavirus.

Council members announced that there will be a trash amnesty day soon, with dumpsters made available in the City, and details will be forthcoming when a final schedule is set.

The regular schedule of Vernon city council meetings has been resumed, with a Workshop on the first Monday, and a formal Meeting on the third Monday of each month, respectively.
